Brooke Valley Bassoon Days
August 21 to 27 2023
Brooke Valley Bassoon Days enters its second decade!

Annual Brooke Valley Bassoon Days
Otty Lake, near Perth Ontario, Canada
International Bassoon Camp for Players of All Abilities
We’ve moved! Some of you may have heard that the folks at Providence Point are on to new adventures and have sold the property. But, lucky for us, we found the perfect alternative less than 30 minutes away. Camp Shomria, just outside the town of Perth, sits on lovely Otty Lake and offers everything we need to start our second decade of Brooke Valley Bassoon Days in style.
Plenty of room to make a racket, rehearse the Rackett, or even bat around a racquet during recreation if that’s your thing–our new site boasts a huge dining hall, multiple spacious bunks, and a swimming dock equipped with kayaks and canoes.
We’ll have the whole place to ourselves for the week. The one difference is that our camp will go from a Sunday to a Saturday, with our final concert on August 20th at 11 am.
Typical hybrid Brooke Valley Bassoon Days includes:
- Small group scales, warm ups and fundamental sessions with a coach
- Guided yoga and mindfulness sessions
- Masterclasses daily
- Private lessons
- Webinars with outstanding Canadian and International bassoonists on a wide variety of bassoon related topics
- Let’s make reeds together!
- Hybrid virtual and in person “Rackett of Bassoons”
- Faculty concert
All activities will be available for full participation online except the following, which will be in person only.
- Small ensemble rehearsals with a coach
- Recreation (swimming, hiking, boating, bonfires etc)
- Socializing over great meals
- Stargazing
In person BVBD is dependent on the Government of Ontario and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit continuing to allow us to meet as a group. Should government guidelines force us to shut down, your in person registration will be converted to an online registration and your room and board payment will be fully refunded.
