Margaret P. Fay

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. Margaret P. Fay is Assistant Teaching Professor of Bassoon at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. Before joining the faculty at Penn State, Margaret taught at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, Western University in London, Ontario, and the University of Guelph. Margaret holds a Doctorate of Music in Bassoon Performance from Indiana University and Master’s degrees in both bassoon performance (Ithaca College) and music theory (University of British Columbia).

Margaret has conducted guest master classes at the Ohio State University, West Virginia University, Western University, the University of Victoria, and Kenyon College, and was the guest bassoon artist at Georgia State University’s Double Reed Day in September 2023. She has presented at conferences of the International Double Reed Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, Ohio Music Education Association, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, and Texas Music Educators Association. As a composer, two of Margaret’s compositions have been performed at International Double Reed Society conferences.

In addition to playing the bassoon and tenoroon, Margaret enjoys playing the piano, fierce ping pong matches, kayaking, board games, and spending time with her seven-year-old son.
