Michel Bettez
Principal bassoon of the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montreal since September 1984, Michel Bettez has also been a recital artist for the bassoon manufacturer Bernd Moosmann since 1997. He has given recitals in some fifteen international conferences, primarily at the annual conferences of the International Double Reed Society (IDRS).
Michel Bettez is also principal bassoon of the Orchestre Symphonique de Laval since 1990, and member of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) since its formation in 1989. With the NEM, he toured extensively in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia. In 1984, he earned a special mention (2nd place) at the Concours du prix d’Europe.
A versatile artist, Michel Bettez plays the baroque and classical bassoon with several ensembles. He was also a member of several chamber music groups including Ensemble Pentaèdre. He has taught at the Montreal Conservatory of Music and the Faculty of Music of the University of Montreal, and has given masterclasses and recitals at universities in France, the United States, Mexico and the Philippines.
